FEBRUARY 2017 - February was truly the month of love for Northwestern Mutual - Minneapolis! On Monday, February 6th, the network office joined together over lunch to pack up over 80 Bags of Love which included Chemo Duck, Chemo Duck books and activities, and a handcrafted Valentine. The following week, on Monday, February 13th, volunteers from our offices delivered these Bags of Love to our hospital partners across Minnesota to provide comfort and a special Valentine to pediatric oncology patients, along with a craft party and snacks for all patients and families!

Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death among children under the age of 15 in the United States. That's why Northwestern Mutual is committed to helping accelerate the search for cures, spread awareness of this disease and provide support for children and their families in the fight.

Northwestern Mutual Foundation Sponsors Advancing Pediatric Cancer Care in Minnesota

OCTOBER, 2015 - Northwestern Mutual Foundation sponsored a childhood cancer research symposium: Advancing Pediatric Cancer Care in Minnesota. This was the first symposium of its kind to take place in Minneapolis and offered an exciting overview of cutting edge research on pediatric cancer currently underway in Minnesota, delivered by a great lineup of speakers from Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, the Mayo Clinic, University of Minnesota and more.

Translational topics of solid tumors and brain tumors were discussed, as well as practical approaches to complications. A poster session gave conference participants an opportunity to highlight their own work in the company of their peers. Read more about the day and dicussion in Children's blog.

Birdies for Brains

Brian Eder, a Financial Advisor with Northwestern Mutual's Woodbury office hosted the 2nd Annual Birdies for Brains, an event Eder created in 2012 to benefit The MN Brain Injury Alliance.  The event took place on Friday June 21st, the summer solstice and longest day of the year.  Brian and seven other golfers began at 4:30 a.m. and golfed until they could no longer see the ball.  This equated to roughly 20 hours and 100 holes of golf to raise money for two great causes- The MN Brain Injury Alliance and The Kryzer Family.

Birdies for Brains had a goal of raising $20,000, which exceeded last year’s goal of $10,000.  The White Eagle Golf Club in Hudson, WI graciously donated the golf carts and greens fees, allowing Birdies for Brains to donate 100% of the proceeds.  If you are interested in learning more about this event for next year, please contact Brian directly at 651-714-6815.
